"EVERY BODY IS BEAUTIFUL. Every body is divinely inspired, superbly designed, awesome in the complex way it’s put together and wonderful in the simple, economical way it works. Every body can be vital, strong and flexible moving through life with grace and assurance, totally healthy-not just some of the time but most of the time. Every body can be improved, inside and outside, because the body potential is hardly ever realized." Ron Fletcher

My Training & Lineage

I am a comprehensively trained Fletcher Pilates teacher. Fletcher Pilates is a lineage-based approach to the Pilates method that traces directly back to Joseph and Clara Pilates through Ron Fletcher (1921–2011), one of the "Pilates Elders", first-generation teachers. Fletcher was a dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company before a knee injury led him to Joseph Pilates.

Fletcher's distinctive contribution was to bring his dance background, particularly the Graham-based principles of contraction, release, and organic movement, into the equipment-centric structure of Joseph Pilates' original method. He was the first to "take the Pilates work vertical", and placed a unique emphasis on breath as the organising principle of movement. Ron often said, "The breath is the drumbeat."

The moment I experienced Fletcher Pilates, I knew it was the discipline I wanted to study. From my perspective, Fletcher Pilates takes Joseph Pilates' original work and refines it with precision and detail, ensuring the body is correctly organised and prepared for every movement. I was drawn to the focus on breath, articulation, and the meticulous preparation that precedes each exercise.

Additional Training

In addition to my comprehensive Fletcher Pilates qualification, I hold:

  • Pre & Post Natal Pilates — Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI)
  • Psoas Muscle Workshop — with Liz Koch
  • Stretch Therapy
  • Postural Restoration

Why I Teach

I teach Pilates to share the love I have for this work with others — to help you rediscover or strengthen your relationship with your body, and through that understanding, to build strength, length, and balance. Pilates gives us a systematic way to realign and maintain our bodies so that we can move into our later years with grace and agility, reducing the risk of needing medical intervention by maintaining structural balance.

As Joseph Pilates wrote in his 1945 book Return to Life Through Contrology:

"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."

What to Expect in a Private Session

Private sessions are the most effective way to feel and see change in your body. In our initial session, we discuss your goals and any movement or physical concerns, and conduct a postural assessment with the aim of centring and aligning the body. A Fletcher Pilates session typically begins and ends in standing — a practice Ron Fletcher referred to as "taking inventory", and can utilise the full range of Pilates equipment, including the Ped-i-Pul, Trapeze Tower (Cadillac), Reformer, Spine Corrector, Combo (Wunda) Chair, as well as the Fletcher Towel, Magic Circle, and Hard Roller.

Pre & Post Natal Pilates

I trained in Pre & Post Natal Pilates with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI).

Pre-natal: Sessions focus on building strength and flexibility across the entire body. As pregnancy progresses, we emphasise leg and arm strength and flexibility while maintaining gentle spinal mobility. Pelvic floor work is included in every session.

Post-natal: Once you are cleared to exercise by your doctor or physiotherapist, I work alongside their recommendations to guide your rehabilitation. We focus on gently rebuilding strength and opening through the shoulders and chest — counteracting the forward-curling posture that comes with feeding, lifting, and carrying your baby.

The Fletcher Work — Barre, Towel & Floor

Ron Fletcher created and trademarked three signature techniques — Fletcher Barrework®, Fletcher Towelwork®, and Fletcher Floorwork® — each related to, yet distinct within, the broader Pilates tradition.

Fletcher Barrework®

While barre exercise originated in ballet, Ron designed his own approach that focuses on articulation from the toes to the fingertips, ensuring the entire body is recruited for every movement piece. Fletcher Barrework brings attention to balancing the left and right sides of the body, and to opening, strengthening, and articulating the hips and legs.

Fletcher Towelwork®

Towelwork is Ron Fletcher's original creation. It uses a signature red braided towel set at approximately double the width of the shoulders and held taut to guide a series of structured movement pieces. It is deceptively simple but profoundly challenging and effective. As someone who has personally struggled with shoulder girdle strength, Towelwork has changed my body in ways I never could have imagined. If you want to mobilise, stabilise, and free your thoracic spine and shoulder girdle, there is no better tool in the Pilates repertoire.

Fletcher Floorwork®

While the foundation of Pilates mat work is the 34 exercises Joseph Pilates outlined in Return to Life, Ron designed Fletcher Floorwork to bring dynamism, flow, and lateral movement into the structured matwork, drawing on his background in Graham-based floor technique. Fletcher Floorwork adds dimensions through lateral rotation and spinal flexion that complement the classical mat pieces. I incorporate Floorwork into nearly every class. Expect movement, flow, and fun.

Kind words from clients

"I started my Pilates journey with Íse six months postpartum after the birth of my second child. She is nothing short of an amazing teacher. I had experienced pelvic girdle pain, sacroiliac joint dysfunction and diastasis recti in both pregnancies. I’d also had two c-sections in seventeen months. Not an easy subject! Within a couple of sessions working with Íse, the tension and pain in my SI joint and pelvis was reduced. Within a couple of months it had disappeared. Íse has an unwavering commitment to form and a rare ability to identify the root cause of a movement. She identified many areas of compensatory movement in my body (which I wasn’t even aware of!) and the lack of flexibility in my thoracic and lumbar spine. Through her guidance I was able to start engaging with these parts of my body and change the way I move. I can’t wait to continue my Pilates journey with Íse. A life changer." Amanda E.

"Thank you so much for a fabulous Beginners’ course in Pilates. I have seen huge improvements in my mobility since starting the course. Last week we were doing hip work and I couldn’t believe when out walking since my hip flexors and legs were so free! First time in a couple of years. I’ve tendinapathy in my gluteus minimis and got such relief my sessions with Ise. I can walk without pain and same with climbing the stairs. I’m delighted. Thank you so much. Ise is so kind, even when I’m having difficulty doing some stretches well, she’s keeps encouraging me so gently! I’m looking forward to my next course with Ise." D. Daly

"I saw some friends recommend Ise's pilates classes and so I enquired about attending evening classes. I am a mum of two and really wanted to be able to focus on some time for myself and my body in the evenings. Ise chatted with me to arrange a suitable time and gave me a wonderful 1:1 classes over zoom - she is very detailed and explains everything in an easy to follow manner. She watched my form closely and it really did not feel any different to attending a class in person. There was lots of opportunity to ask questions and Ise was very conscious to keep checking in on how my body was feeling. It was great to do it from my living room and no commute to the class! Thank you Ise, I will definitely continue with you!" Louise M.

"My private class with Ise was so inspiring and nourishing, she has an incredible way to cue the posture and allow my body to sink in deeply.  Her way of communication and space holding was so healing and I have found a new love for Pilates. I can highly recommend working with her." Tish S.
